Cocopeat has many outstanding properties.
It can hold 8 times its weight in water while still providing oxygen to the roots and has a natural rooting hormone as well as anti-fungal properties. Compared to peat moss, cocopeat decomposes much more slowly and can be reused for 3-5 years. It also rehydrates quicker and does not compact when it dries. This makes for easier watering as well as less waste.
Wonderful Coconut
Coconut is a central part of life in many tropical locales with virtually every part of the plant finding some use. Thailand is the #1 producer of coconut milk in the world, and as a result there is a great abundance of husk. The husk is first stripped of it coarse fibers which are sun dried and bundled for use in mattresses and rope.
The result is a fine crumbly material which our coco peat is made from. It is first aged and then washed at our factory. The coconut groves from which our product is sourced from is inland and thus contains low levels of salts to begin with. Here are some other facts about coconuts;
- Rope made from the fiber in the coconut is resistant to mold and performs well in the ocean unlike cotton rope.
- Leaves are used for thatching houses.
- Shells are made into a hot burning charcoal.
- The nut kernel(coconut) is a rich source of nutrition containing; 3.5 calories per gram 33% fat and 5% protein roughly.
- The wood is used in construction.
- The water inside the fresh nut can be used as a replacement for blood plasma in a transfusion.
How does it stack up to peat?
Our Coir is manufactured from inland grown coconuts which have naturally lower loevel of salts to begin with. It is aged at least 8 months, then finally rinsed with fresh water, tested, dried and compressed. It has an EC below .5 and a ph of 5.8-6.5. Coir has a higher cation exchange capacity than peat, meaning that it resists leaching of fertilizer better. Coir fiber rewets and wicks moisture easily, it does not shrink drastically and become hydrophobic like peat. Another thing that distinguishes Coco World coir from other coir material is its initial hydration. Each 4kg. block will absorb over 4 gallons of water without losing its structure; peat settles when overwetted.
Coir holds up to steaming! This is an important factor to consider when including into cinder mixes. The superior physical properties could with the economical price point make Coco World coir the natural choice.
In the picture to the left you can see four 4kg. blocks rehydrated approximates in volume one 3.8 cubic foot bale. The cocopeat is however holding a full charge of water! If the peat were this wet it would be much smaller!
Q. How is the growth in Cocopeat?
A. Cocopeat supports a very healthy growth of all plants as the fibers do not become compacted and allow for good ventilation of the roots. The fibers also have a very high cation exchange capacity meaning that fertilizer is not easily leached from media.
Q. What is the difference between your Cocopeat and others available on the market?
A. Our Cocopeat comes from inland grown coconuts which have a naturally low level of salt present. Furthermore our product is processed by aging and finally washed to obtain a very low e.c. Every step of the process is carefully controlled. Other Cocopeats is usually not subject to these processes and can come from uncertain conditions, such as coastal grown coconuts, substandard storage and processing and with that the possibility of introduction of unwanted pathogens. We offer the highest quality Cocopeat every time. Please ask for a sample so you can perform an independent laboratory analysis.
Q. How easy are the blocks to break apart, and what is the recommended procedure?
A. Since our product is very low in salt it is unnecessary to leach as with some other Cocopeats. Our cocopeat rehydrates easily, it can be simply layed on plastic or concrete and irrigated with a sprinkler system.
Q. What are the terms for shipment to my farm/ facility?

Q. Can I grow in straight Cocopeat or should it be mixed with perlite or some type of aggregate?
A. This depends on many factors. The picture below is of a tomato grown in pure Cocopeat. Some growers mix with a locally available product to make a very economical mix. Cocopeat is excellent for this with its unique physical properties and economical price point.
Q. Can I use for seeding?
A. Yes!
